Abstract:["Investigating the prion-like propagation of amyloidogenic proteins in C. elegans. Many neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's disease or Parkinson's disease are associated with the gradual accumulation and characteristic spreading of pathological forms of specific proteins. The underlying mechanisms remain, however, largely elusive. I will present our ongoing work using the nematode Caenorhabditis elegans as a model system to discover and examine cellular pathways and factors that influence the propagation and intercellular spreading of disease-associated proteins such as \u03b1-Synuclein and Tau. A better understanding of these mechanisms might eventually identify new druggable targets for the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases."]
